Hi all,
With the v4, I had stopped using Ace Utilities in order to clean my registry because it was too agressive: it always disabled some programs and each time I had to reinstall them... (restoration was useless)
I would like to know whether Ace Utilities v5 have the same problems?
Has the cleaning engine been improved in Ace Utilities v5?
Tia for your help,
Cheers
Ace Utilities v5 (Registry Cleaner): too agressive?
Re: Ace Utilities v5 (Registry Cleaner): too agressive?
Ideally, the 'Clean System Registry' tool does not create any irrecoverable issues. The tool employs a built-in 'ignore-list' which prevents it from interfering with entries whose removal 'may' cause problem. The list gets updated from time to time and also based on user reports. So make sure that the use of ignore-list is enabled (Options > Clean System Registry > Use Ignore list).
To 'tone down' the scanning process, you can do the following:
* Options > Clean System Registry: Put 'Scanning method' to 'Standard'
* Clean system Registry > Scan Options pane: Uncheck 'ActiveX and COM'
If 'System Restore' is enabled in your Windows, you can choose to enable the 'Options > Clean System Registry > Create System Restore point before cleaning the registry'. If anything goes wrong and you want to repair it, you can restore the Windows to a previous saved state.
