Tweak N Tune - Right Click etc.
I believe that I misused the Tweak N Tune program. I now have no way to use my right click and no way to use the drag n drop. Consequently, I cannot move my files. PLEASE HELP ME. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition on a DELL DIMENSION 4550.
Still need help
Aneesh,
Thanks for the reply... However, that does not work, since the "disable" selection is ALREADY unchecked. I didn't check it in the first place. Is there anything else I could do to get my right click and my drag, back to me. Awaiting your reply...

Are you talking about right click/drag and drop on Start Menu? If so, 'My computer' -> 'Control Panel' -> TaskBar and StartMenu -> 'Start Menu'. If classic startmenu, then 'Customize' -> 'Enable drag and dropping'. If not, 'Customize' -> 'Advanced' -> 'Enable drag and dropping'.
The 'Enable drag and dropping' option also controls the right-clicking on the Start Menu. Disabling drag and dropping also disables right-clicking.

Aneesh,
Thanks for that suggestion, but the drag n drop on the Start Menu control panel was already enabled as well. I believe that it is something in the registry. Do you know of any way to modify my registry to get this feature back? I am totally crippled in moving and/or copying data files... I can't get them off of my machine, so that I could reformat if necessary. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks.

In TnT you can check:
Windows Tweaks -> Desktop -> 'Disable the ability to right click on the Desktop' -> 'Disable the context menu...'.
The above tweak is the only one in Tweak N Tune that seems to be related to the issue at hand.
If you are in the habit of keeping registry backups or using System Restore, then you can reset the changes by restoring to a backup point just prior to the mishap.
Also, if only the mouse operations are disabled, you can use the keyboard shortcut keys for copy/paste for taking backup of files before re-installing or a fresh install.

Thanks for the quick response.
1. System Restore does NOT work at this time. It won't restore to a date prior to this problem.
2. Anything having to do with moving and/or deleting files has been disabled. This includes the mouse, the keyboard shortcuts, drop down menus, drag n drop, etc.
Any other suggestions??

This issue may not be related to TnT. All these issues may not be related to a single malfunctioning registry entry and TnT does not provide tweaks for a few options that are disabled in your case.
Have you tried the 'Start Menu' -> 'Accessories' -> 'System Tools' -> 'Backup' tool? Also, I would suggest a system scan using both an antivirus s/w and an anti-spyware.
You can try re-installing Windows. This should, ideally, keep your data intact while fixing the Windows installation.
Or
You can install a new copy of Windows on a different partition, say D drive, use it to boot the PC, copy the files from previous installation and then finally delete the old Windows copy. This option is viable only if you are willing to install a fresh copy and have the time to install all the softwares that you use and is to be used as a last step.
