I've used Ace Utilities to find and remove duplicate files on my computer.
The 'removed files' were sent to a directory where they might be recovered if needed. There are two options; one, send the duplicates to the 'Recycle Bin', and two; send them to another directory for possible recovery. I chose the second option and I can see the 'saved files' in that directory, however, I cannot 'recover' or 'restore' any of the files.

The 'saved' files are 'ZIPPED', but I cannot UN-ZIP them...

Any suggestions...

you can use the program 7-Zip to unzip these files. (It is a freeware).

Hari, I was able to recover a few files with 7-Zip, but the problem seems to be with Ace Utilities inability to restore saved duplicate files to their original locations. The problem is partially mine, in that I moved the saved files to another directory in another drive, in order to save space.
When I attempted to recover the files in the other drive and directory, Ace Utilities would not recognize the files, and therefore not recover the saved files...

Any ideas as to why Ace Utilities cannot recover files that were moved to another location..?

By the way, 7-Zip is a nice utility, but the process of recovering Ace Utilitiy saved files is cumbersome and often not able to recognize many files as elligible for recovery...

We will check the issue. Did you rename the file ?


You can use 7 zip to open the zip file. the Comment field in the zip file will show the original location of each file in the zip file.

I opened several zipped files and your advice is 'right on'... The 'comment' does indicate the original locations of the individual files.

I have found a few zipped files that cannot be opened... Error message indicates corrupt file... strange... I'll try to fix them with Zip Repair...
