What is the possibilty in reg cleaner of being able to search for a particular key or subkey and then deleteing the individual key(s)? ("Vilma Registry Editor" has this capability).

Also is there any chance of being able to do scans by one or more of the current scan options and then append each scan to a single file. This would make scanning much easier and safer rather than having several hundred or so entries to double check before deleting.

You mean a 'search' feature in the registry cleaner's list ? If so, we can do it.

Currently, no. YOu have to scan each option seperately. Are there a lot of entries ? There are some entries like

..\explorer\comdlg32\..
..\MenuOrder\..

that can be deleted eyes closed.

Yes I mean an option to search on keys that would be included in the list of scan options just like the current scan options. You would have something like this:

HKEY_LOC_MACHINE
HKEY_CUR_USER
HKEY_USERS
START MENU
.........
.........
.........
FIND REGISTRY KEY


THIS ENTRY WOULD PERHAPS GIVE YOU A POPUP DIALOG IN WHICH TO ENTER SEARCH KEY

ALSO ON APPENDING FILES... COULD I RUN SEPARATE SCANS AND THEN COMBINE FILES INTO ONE WITH AN EDITOR, ERASING THE "REGEDIT 4' ENTRY EXCEPT ON FIRST FILE?

Boy, your registry backup file is the largest I've seen.
Why haven't you cleaned it earlier ? I don't think I can find the entry related to the CD drive problem. Please try deleting entries of each option at a time and reboot to see if the problem arises.
BTW, are you a programmer ?

Yes, you can merge multiple .reg files, by removing the [REGEDIT4] line.
But make sure to add an empty line at the end of the file.

I have been lax about cleaning Reg, but am catching up now.

I will try scanning each section as you suggest to resolve CD problem. Need to resolve this so I can clean Reg and use CD drive.

Yes I programmed for many years, but on mainframes, not PC.

On merging files, do you mean to place an empty line at the end of each file before appending the next file, or just one line at end of merged file?

P.S.

Sorry, we can't find the needed entry here because we don't have the problem here Are you saying you can't access any file using Explorer ? Or that you can't access certain types of files ?

When I tried to access CD drive, system popped up a dialog that said:

"Drive D not accessible" or something very similar. Ater restoring reg files, no problem.

I will try scanning each section individually to isolate the problem. Will let you know results later.

You had told me recently that scans could be done in any order and combination. When I do this and total them up, the total is different from the total that I get from doing all categories at once. Should they not be the same? Is this a problem?

If the number of entries you get when scanning all options at once is *less* than the sum of entries found by individual scans, it is normal. This is because the same entry can be found by two or more options, and if all options are used at the same time, the entry is shown only once.
