Speeding up Registry Compactor

Post by Roedy » Wed Feb 01, 2012 3:44 am

I just upgraded to 16 gig of ram and a 6 core CPU. I was suprised to find registry compactor was still very slow. I was even more suprised when I noted the hard disk light barely flickering.

I thought perhaps if you spawned a copy of the compactor for each hive and let them run simultaneously it would get done considerably faster, even if you did 3 hives at a time.

We'll check the feasibility of multi-threading in the case of Registry Compactor. It may provide a marginal increase in speed.
