Is Registry Finder a virus or trojan?

Post by reporting » Mon Jun 20, 2011 11:37 pm

I just ran Registry Finder through 41 virus scanners on the VirustTotal website, and 14 of those virus scanners detected a virus or trojan in Registry Finder.

You can view the report here:

or submit an MD5 or SHA1 of the Registry Finder exe, or the exe itself to VirusTotal here:

So what's the story? Is RF really infected with a virus?

An excerpt from an email I sent to a user the other day:

"...
Worry not. There is NO malicious payload in any of the uploaded installers of our program - not from the ones downloaded via our website. Some times, it so happens that after certain 'virus definition updates', anti-virus / anti-malware / anti-spyware software may tag legitimate files as suspicious. That's not because they have any malicious part, but due to the heuristic approach these programs use to scan for infections.
"
